Today, I will be sharing with you all how to make Ghanaian meat pie. I have heard it is similar to empanadas, made by Latinos, except that empanadas, from what I know are fried and Ghanaian meat pies are baked.
**fun fact: In Ghana, certain people fry theirs too, my mom was telling me.**
1 1/2 cups of all purpose flour
3 sticks of butter
1 onion (add more if you like)
1 teaspoon of baking powder
1 can of corned beef (or meat of your choice)
tip: add the egg after the dough is a bit formed
Finally, I coat the meat pies with milk, for color. Then I put them in the oven at 400 degrees and let them bake, occasionally checking on them. Once it begins to brown, the meat pie is done, or you can use the “cake test”- inert a tooth pick into the dough, if it comes out clean then it is done.
sidenote: If you are not a meat lover, you can use your favorite vegetables as a filling.
I hope you enjoyed this post and you try making it yourself. Do let me know if you try it, I will love to know how it turned out and what you used as your filling.
